Cinema Text
Create Text-Based Subtitle Files from Movies in Your Library
Uses advanced text recognition and expert system rules to convert subtitle tracks into text-based SRT files
Subtitles The Way You Like Them
Movies on Blu-ray or UHD discs come with a host of subtitle tracks. Including them in your rip means they’re displayed in different fonts and positions on the screen which can lead to a jarring viewing experience. Cinema Text creates standard SRT files from the subtitle tracks included in your rips allowing your media player to display consistent, well-formatted subtitles at the bottom of your screen. And since the subtitles are generated directly from your media files, there are no timing issues, subtitles appear exactly when they’re supposed to and exactly where you want them.
Convert with Confidence
Cinema Text uses Apple’s advanced Vision libraries to intelligently convert subtitle frames into text and outputs a frame-accurate SRT subtitle file. We’ve been using this tool on our own media library and fine-tuned the conversion process to ensure accurate and verifiable output.
- Convert to SRT – Drop a MKV file onto the app and it analyzes all of the embedded subtitle tracks, shows each track’s language and allows you to convert only the tracks you need. Scanning and conversion usually completes in under a minute for a feature film on a local drive.
- Flag and Review – Each subtitle is read three ways: from the original image, an inverted copy, and its outline mask. When the readings can’t agree, the subtitle is flagged for review. You can choose the conversion that matches the dialog or manually edit the text when the app misses.
- Auto Correction – Cinema Text uses its built-in rules for automatic clean-up of common recognition errors with Latin alphabet languages. All auto-corrected subtitle items are listed in a separate tab for review and can be manually corrected when needed.
- Built-in Editing Tools – Cinema Text includes a host of editing tools to perfect your subtitle files, even if you downloaded them elsewhere. Tools include:
- Add/Delete – Add or delete subtitle items.
- Split/Merge – Split a subtitle item into two separate items with their own timing or merge two subtitle items into one longer item
- Shift – The app lets you shift the timing of the entire file, from the selection onward, or a single subtitle item by a specified duration.
- Replace – Search and replace text across multiple subtitle items.
- Timing – Adjust start and end timing of any subtitle item.
- Preview Your Edits – Any selected subtitle item can be previewed with full video or just audio. Click the preview button, and the app renders a clip showing exactly when your subtitles will appear.
- Save and Edit – You can save and edit your subtitle files as often as you like. Notice something off during a viewing? Reload the SRT file, make changes, and save again. Reload the MKV file and Cinema Text will detect any existing SRT files and allow you to continue editing or just convert the subtitle tracks again.
